Price-Quotes Research Lab — Methodology

Last updated: April 2026

How We Collect Pricing Data

Price-Quotes Research Lab aggregates pricing data from multiple independent sources to produce accurate, city-level cost estimates for services across the United States. Our data pipeline operates 24/7 across multiple collection servers.

Data Sources

Confidence Scoring

Every price data point includes a confidence score (0–100%) based on: number of sources corroborating the price range, recency of data, geographic specificity, and consistency across sources. Data with confidence below 60% is flagged for additional verification.

Audit Trail

Every data point in our database maintains a full audit trail: when it was collected, from which source, by which collection method, and every subsequent update with the old and new values. This ensures complete transparency and verifiability. View audit trails for any service by visiting the audit link at the bottom of each price table.

Consumer Sentiment Analysis

We analyze consumer reviews from Reddit, Yelp, and Google Maps using natural language processing to identify recurring themes — both positive and negative. Results are presented as theme frequency percentages based on our review sample, with representative (anonymized) quotes.

Update Frequency

Price data is collected continuously by our distributed research network. Each service×city combination is refreshed on a rolling basis, with high-demand services updated daily and all data refreshed within 7 days. Historical trend data is collected weekly.

Limitations

Our price ranges represent typical costs and may not reflect every individual quote. Actual prices vary based on job complexity, provider availability, time of service, and specific local conditions. We recommend obtaining at least three quotes before making any purchasing decision.
